I want to comment about the CMS. I have a nephew with this and I want to know whether you have any recommendations of how to make my brother understand that he (tyler) needs some therapy to help him manage this. He is 8 now, and has been doing this for 5 years. They said their pedi doctor said he will grow out of it and he has not. I want to know to tell him this is serious. This is going to be a problem even more so when he starts to get older and has to be in front of the class and make presentations. I am lost as to how to make him and his wife understand how major of an issue this is for tyler's sake. Please any thoughts.
Hi Amy! First, I want to assure you that although CMS can "look weird" to their peers, the majority of kids grow up without any issues. There is a very active Facebook group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/motorstereotypy/Also, the premier place to get a diagnosis is at Johns Hopkins with Dr. Harvey Singer. He is one of the few doctors who know what CMS is. Your nephew will not outgrow it, but Johns Hopkins does offer Behavior Therapy to manage it. Let me know if there is any other info. you think will help:) Dawn
